The British Virgin Islands enjoy a tropical climate, moderated by trade winds. Temperatures vary little throughout the year. Rainfall averages about 1150 mm (45 in) per year, higher in the hills and lower on the coast. Rainfall can be quite variable, but the wettest months on average are September to November and the driest months on average are February and March. Hurricanes occasionally hit the islands, with the hurricane season running from June to November.

The islands have a sub-tropical climate with high humidity, although temperatures are moderated by trade winds. Temperatures in summer average from 26-31°C and between 22-28°C in winter.

Average rainfall is less than 2 inches a month from January through March. More than five inches of rain falls in September, October and November during the most active months of the Caribbean hurricane season.

Because of these weather patterns, the most popular months for visits to the Virgin Islands are December through April, according to the Caribbean Tourism Organization. The least popular month because of heavy rainfall is September, followed by October and August.
